Our story

Two firms with one shared standard.

Vidal O'Brien & Co. was established in 1936 and built its reputation as a chartered accounting and audit firm serving businesses, registered clubs of NSW and self-managed superannuation funds in the Sydney CBD.

Incite Accountants & Advisors was founded as a contemporary, locally-owned advisory practice — combining the depth and breadth of services of any major business consulting firm with the personal, principal-led relationships only an independent firm can deliver. Tax, business advice, financing and valuation work has always been at the heart of what we do.

By coming together as Incite Vidal O'Brien, we offer a fuller service for our clients without losing what made each firm worth choosing: senior people, technical excellence and long, trusting relationships.

1936Vidal O'Brien & Co. is founded as a chartered accounting practice in Sydney.

20th centuryThe firm builds a reputation for audit work with companies, registered clubs of NSW and self-managed superannuation funds.

2010sIncite Accountants & Advisors establishes a modern advisory practice in the Sydney CBD, specialising in business advice, financing and valuations.

2020sBoth firms grow their cloud accounting, SMSF and assurance offerings, expanding service plans for property investors and SMEs.

2024The two practices combine to form Incite Vidal O'Brien.

Incite Vidal O'Brien practises as Chartered Accountants and our principals include registered company auditors and approved SMSF auditors. We are bound by the professional and ethical standards of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ), the Tax Practitioners Board, and ASIC requirements applicable to registered auditors.

Liability is limited by a scheme approved under Professional Standards Legislation — a scheme that protects clients while requiring high standards of professional conduct, education, complaints handling and insurance.

For audit engagements, we apply the Australian Auditing Standards and maintain strict independence in accordance with APES 110 — including for our work with companies, registered clubs of NSW and self-managed superannuation funds.
